Automated sorting techniques are not new, but their adaptation and enhancement for effective use in the recovery of waste materials is a recent development. Jayplas uses innovative sorting technology from TiTech that makes it possible to fully automate separation of recyclable materials.
TiTech can supply automated systems that can sort most common materials types found in household and commercial waste streams, from newspapers and magazines to metals packaging and WEEE. For Jayplas, it is TiTech’s accuracy in sorting coloured and clear types of plastic such as PET and HDPE, and other polymers like polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene that is most important.
Whatever the application, the principle is the same. The input stream is analysed by a fast-moving scanning sensor installed over a conveyor belt. It rapidly identifies materials, shapes, textures and colours as well as the object position. The defined sorting fraction is blown onto a second transport system using high power air jets, while the residual fraction is brought to a third belt for further sorting or disposal.
